Run For Sacha - The Atlantic Coast Challenge

front.jpg The Sacha Borthwick Foundation has been set up in memory of my brother Sacha who died of cancer in July 2007 aged 35 after a long, courageous and hard fought battle with the disease.  Sach left behind his wife Lucy and 5 year-old daughter Livvy (my niece).  The photo to the left was taken about 2 years ago, during the last summer we all had together as a family.

The Foundation's principal aims going forward will be to identify and donate to specific cancer related charities on a local and regional scale, many of which are not in the public eye and do not enjoy the exposure and support afforded by some the national charities.  Some of these organisations were of great benefit to my brother during his fight; others will be of essential benefit to many individuals who are, or who have previously, endured similar struggles against this disease.

Throughout the majority of his working life Sacha was employed within the mining industry in the UK.  The Foundation will also aim to provide a perpetual annual award to particularly outstanding newcomers to this industry who may have also suffered or overcome similar hardships and difficulties as those faced by my brother.

The Atlantic Coast Challenge

Three marathons in three days, covering a total of 78.6 miles from Padstow to Lands End along the Cornish coastal path, some of the wildest coastline in Britain.  I will be running in this event at the end of September this year in order to raise funds for the Foundation.  Please take the time to look at the other pages on this site to learn more about the Sacha, the Foundation and this ridiculous challenge I have decided to undertake.

**Success!**

Well last weekend and with the help of a fantastic support crew I managed to run, walk, climb, crawl, scramble and wade a total of 78.6 miles across Cornwall's most gruelling coastline in a total time of 20 hours and 5 minutes - we were blessed with the most amazing weather and fantastic scenery which really made the whole weekend very memorable.

Lucy and I would like to say a huge thank you to all of you who have so kindly donated towards Sach's Foundation, as you can see we have now raised over £20,000 which is a brilliant start for the Foundation and provides us with an excellent platform to start supporting a number of worthy cancer and lymphoma charities who, despite their excellent and much needed work, often do not get the public attention and exposure they deserve.  Thank you all again, we will be organising further events in the future so please keep and eye on this website and also, going forward, www.sachaborthwickfoundation.co.uk
